Cinnamon: A Natural Ingredient Used in Skincare

It’s the holiday season and we at Trades of Brit wanted to explore a common ingredient that is used this season, cinnamon! Cinnamon is a spice that comes from the bark of Cinnamomum trees. Many of us use it in our foods such as apple sauce and apple pie. Did you ever think that it could help nourish your skin? In this blog post, I will be educating you on the skin care benefits of cinnamon and how it can be used in your daily skincare routine.

Skincare Benefits of Cinnamon

Cinnamon serves as an antioxidant rich in vitamin C with anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. These properties allow it to be used to heal damaged skin as well as fight acne breakouts by clearing the pores. Foods rich in antioxidants lessen harmful free radical damage, therefore reducing wrinkles due to aging. Topical application of cinnamon is one way to get these positive effects.

How to Use Cinnamon in Your Skincare Routine

Outside of sprinkling cinnamon on foods we eat, we can use it as a topical application for our skin.  Here are three ways you can utilize it in your skincare routine.

  • Face and Body Care
  • Cinnamon essential oil can be added into soaps and creams that you will then use on your face or body.

  • Lip Care
  • Cinnamon can be used in a lip scrub, or lip gloss. You can find a recipe for a DIY lip scrub on our blog.

  • Eczema Care
  • Cinnamon can be utilized in a paste combined with honey to provide eczema relief.

Cinnamon is a great natural ingredient that can be used in various types of skincare products including our Apple Cider Soap Bar and Warming Muscle Rub. Always perform a patch test before using any product especially if you have a skin condition such as eczema.
